Wyres
Strings began from humble beginnings. Our philosophy has always been to
test, develop and make the best musical strings possible. Naturally as
musicians, we are exceptionally discerning and try to employ our most
creative skills to develop great products. Very often musicians will be
invited into the factory to test strings and give us real time feedback. In
technical areas unfamiliar to us we do consult engineers, chemists and even
metallurgists for advice and we try to incorporate new ideas into our
production. Our 1st generation of P.T.F.E. (polymer
tetra-fluoro-ethylene) coated strings is a
prime example of one of these innovations which we debuted at the
NAMM 1997 Show in
Anaheim, California. We have continued improving on our P.T.F.E.
coated string
process and are today offering a 3rd generation P.T.F.E. coating.
Wyres Strings
are currently manufactured in the USA. By combining the old-world
skills of our talented craftspeople with our modern machine technology, we
produce a superbly handcrafted string. We have gone back to the original Wyres
script logo and our string packages get a completely new graphic
design makeover. Bold new colours with guitar and bass pickups for the
electric instrument strings and woodgrain tops for the acoustic instrument
strings. We package these strings in a clear plastic jewel box. Wyres Strings
is one of the few companies to actually manufacture their own strings and in
the near future, Wyres Strings will also be manufactured in Canada.
We enjoy an
active and growing artist endorsement program. It's always a great pleasure
for us to have contact with artists that we admire. It is also very
flattering to our egos when artists rave about our strings. We love the
contact with other musicians and hope that they will build close ties with
us. |

Wyres Strings
specializes in making our own handmade musical instrument strings, coated or
uncoated, for the purist. Strings that don’t suffer from the ‘metal
fatigue’ that’s caused by the bending, flexing and over-stretching of
totally machined strings. Such strings are prone to lose their tone and
break more quickly. Our highly skilled craftspeople handwrap the core-wire,
resulting in a looser wound, lighter tensioned, softer playing string, with
less stress on the player and instrument. The player finds the strings
easier on the fingers when bending and playing. The instrument ‘breathes’
and resonates more freely with longer sustain. Handmade Wyres have truer
intonation and stay in tune longer. Wyres aren’t mass-produced, taking
longer and costing more to make, but resulting in a superior sounding and
playing string.
Our optional
P.T.F.E.
(polymer tetra-fluoro-ethylene) coating is a proprietary process
of combining a dry inert plastic with a carrying agent of rubbing alcohol.
This lighter coating doesn’t dampen frequencies and is applied over the
finished string, allowing more wire to wire contact for more brilliance. P.T.F.E. lubricates the string, protecting it against oils, acids and
oxidation, resulting in less fret wear, less chording noise, longer life and
a smooth, silky touch.
MagikLube
(Patent Pending) is a high-tech lubricant in a precision needle-tip
applicator. Incorporating 35 chemicals in a proprietary process, MagikLube
creates a super-slippery interface between moving surfaces. In use in many,
diverse industries worldwide. Excellent in musical instrument repair and
maintenance: valves, slides, knobs, tremolos, tuners etc.
Wyres Molded Nylon Flatpicks
with raised logo and lettering provide a
better anti-slip finger grip. Available in 6 colour-coded gauges: 0.38 mm, 0.46 mm, 0.60 mm, 0.73 mm, 0.88 mm and 1.00 mm.
